The Harambee Stars captain scored four as Al-Duhail thrashed Al-Shamal to win the Qatar Stars League

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has expressed his happiness at retaining his Qatar Stars League Golden Boot Award.

Olunga scored four goals as Al-Duhail hammered Al-Shamal 5-2 to win their first title since 2020, the striker’s maiden league crown since joining the club in 2021, to retain his top scorer’s gong.

The 29-year-old headed into the final game level on 18 goals with Al Arabi’s Omar Al Somah but his four goals took his season’s tally to 22, while his rival could only manage one, as they won 2-1 away to outgoing champions Al Sadd.

"Back-To-Back top scorer QSL league. Kazi ya Mungu haina makosa,” a happy Olunga said via a Facebook post on Tuesday.

The Kenyan striker stamped his authority in Qatar yet again this season, his goals steering Al-Duhail to the title, and he has now retained his Golden Boot Award after claiming it last term when he notched 24 league goals.

Olunga has ended the season with an incredible 40 goals from 38 games in all competitions for Hernan Crespo’s men while sealing a treble of league and two cups.

He led Al-Duhail to the Qatar Cup following a victory against Al Sadd in the final in March, the win coming just days after lifting the Ooredoo Cup, in which he emerged top scorer with 10 goals.

The former Gor Mahia striker is in line for more individual glory after he was shortlisted for the prestigious Qatar Sports League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award last weekend.

Olunga is up against Akram Afif of Al Sadd and Yousef Msakni of Al Arabi for the award, whose winner will be announced on May 13.
