The game looked poised to end goalless until substitute Oscar Paul tapped the ball into the back of the net in the dying seconds of the game to give Homeboyz all the three points.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick ‘Luwowo’ Odhiambo has praised his charges for pushing until the very last minute as they labored to a 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars on Sunday afternoon.

The game, which took place at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, was fairly even, with both sides creating chances, especially from transitional situations.

The game looked poised to end goalless until substitute Oscar Paul tapped the ball into the back of the net in the dying seconds of the game to give them all three points.

Speaking after the match, the former Gor Mahia assistant coach revealed that he was pleased that his side managed to get the victory after he had accepted a draw would be a fair result at some point during the match.

“We wanted to come for all the three points,” Odhiambo said.

“However, based on how the first half went on, we thought that a draw would still be okay since we were playing away from home.

“From experience, there are times were we chase the victory and then get flat-footed in the last seconds, so it was in my mind. The important thing was not to lose.

“I thank my players for their effort, and those who came on did very well.

“In football nowadays, there is an emphasis on physicality. The game today is all about stepping up to the plate. We therefore have to adapt (accordingly).”

The result now means Homeboyz are fourth on 21 points, four behind league leaders Posta Rangers after 12 league matches played so far
