Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has hit back at reports that his job is under threat from Pitso Mosimane, insisting he is good enough and has support from the club.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has dismissed speculation linking veteran coach Pitso Mosimane with his job.

Cardoso watched his team begin the year with a 2-0 win over Orbit College in the Premier Soccer League on Tuesday but he had to deal with questions over his future after the game.

Mosimane has been reported to be in talks with Sundowns over the possibility of taking over from Cardoso since the start of this month, bringing into focus the position of the Portuguese tactician.

However, Cardoso feels those are critics who are keen to destabilise his team with things that they do not know anything about.

“Nowadays, people discuss football on the phones and speak about things they have no idea about and that gives a lot of echoes to things that do not exist,” Cardoso told the media.

“People are discussing things they would probably like to happen. They don’t have any idea about it but they want to speak about it.

“Having a phone in your hand, a blog that you create, having some followers [online] gives echo to people but unfortunately, they don’t know what they are speaking about.”

Cardoso has maintained that he is still very much in charge and has the backing of the club hierarchy and his players with his focus being on improving performances and results.

“Sundowns is a club that is ruled from the inside to the outside, not from the outside to the inside. There is a strong leadership within the club,” he added.

“There is a strong Sporting Director, a strong coach and a very strong locker room and it is not from the outside that people will hurt us. The doors of Chloorkop are so strong that those kinds of things don’t hurt us.”

Cardoso’s team moved to the top of the table with 29 points from 14 matches, one ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have two games in hand, and will now turn their focus to Friday’s CAF Champions League match against Sudanese giants Al-Hilal.

“We are united and we know what we have to do,” the former Esperance coach further stated. “We are working hard to please our fans as much as possible and not let our fans be poisoned by things from outside.”
