The defender, who played a key role for Harambee Stars at CHAN 2024, was handed a call up to the Harambee Stars squad for the October World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

Kenya Police  defender Daniel Sakari has expressed gratitude after earning another call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, saying his consistency and faith have kept him going.

Stars boss Benni McCarthy opted to recall him to the set up after leaving him out for the September qualifiers, with the side targeting maximum points for their final two games of the qualifying campaign, which are practically dead-rubber fixtures.

Speaking after Kenya Police’s home draw in the FKF Premier League, Sakari, who has previously played for Tusker and Kariobangi Sharks,  said he is simply sticking to his routine and trusting the process that has kept him in top form.

There Isn’t Anything I am Doing Differently

“I don’t think there’s anything I’m doing differently,” Sakari said on Sports Eye Sports. “It’s just the normal stuff — I think God is on my side. I just keep on receiving the calls, so I thank Him for that.”

Sakari featured for Stars in all five of their games at CHAN 2024, starting twice and coming on as a sub in the other three games.

He has become a seasoned Kenyan international since his debut for the side in December 2019 during the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia, playing and shining in key fixtures including a 1-1 draw with Egypt at Kasarani Stadium in March 2021, when he kept former Aston Villa man Trezeguet at bay.

The right-back, who has been a regular for both Kenya Police and Harambee Stars, came off the bench in the second half as his team was held to a draw.

Despite the result, he remained positive about the team’s performance following their opening league game 0-0 draw against Ulinzi Stars , noting that the only missing piece was converting their chances.

“We just needed to score the goals. The chances were too many for us,” he said. “We didn’t get the three points, but we thank God for the one.”

Sakari revealed that his instructions from the coach were simple — to play his natural game and maintain the team’s attacking rhythm. “He just told me to go and do my thing,” he added with a smile.

As defending FKF Premier League champions, Kenya Police face heightened pressure this season, with every opponent eager to dethrone them. Sakari says the team is embracing that challenge.

“We just go into every game with a different mentality because we are the defending champions,” he explained. “Every team comes at us knowing they’re facing the champions, so we take every match like a final.”

Looking Ahead

Sakari has set clear personal targets for the new season — to contribute more offensively while continuing to grow as a player.

“I just want more assists, more goals, and more call-ups,” he said. “Hopefully, it’ll be a great season.”

With his consistency, professionalism, and experience on both domestic and international fronts, Sakari remains one of Kenya’s most dependable full-backs — and a crucial part of Kenya Police FC’s title defense campaign.
