Cole Palmer's goal drought: Enzo Maresca wants the Chelsea playmaker to follow Nicolas Jackson’s example.

Enzo Maresca has highlighted the impact of Nicolas Jackson's goals against Djurgarden, believing they illustrate a rapid return to form for the Chelsea striker.

The Blues secured a comfortable 4-1 victory against Djurgarden in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League semi-final in Sweden.

After goals from Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke, Jackson came off the bench to score twice, giving Chelsea a significant advantage heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca on Jackson's revival, Palmer drought

The Senegalese striker’s brace against Djurgarden followed his winning goal in Chelsea's recent Premier League victory over Everton, marking three goals in a few days for the forward.

The manager noted that Jackson appears to be a different player compared to recent weeks, attributing this transformation to finding the back of the net.

Maresca hopes a similar boost in confidence will soon benefit Cole Palmer, suggesting it is simply a matter of breaking through a difficult period for the playmaker, who has not scored since January 14.

Having seen Jackson's recent scoring restore his self-belief, the manager hopes Palmer will soon experience a similar return to goalscoring form and regain his confidence.

“You see now that Nico looks like a different player from weeks ago,” said Maresca after Chelsea’s 4-1 success. “Hopefully the same thing is going to happen with Cole [Palmer].

“It’s just a matter of breaking that moment and going again, because he scored against Everton. Now he has the confidence again and we know how good Nico is for us.

“It is the same thing with Cole and hopefully we can also have him scoring goals and getting assists very soon.”

Thursday’s victory puts Chelsea with one foot in the Conference League final, as they are expected to avoid a shock collapse at Stamford Bridge.
