Anyembe made his first full start for Viborg since returning from injury which will give him much needed momentum as he prepares to link up with Harambee Stars this week.

Daniel Anyembe made his first full start for Viborg since returning from injury as they ended their top flight campaign in disastrous fashion, losing 2-0 to Lyngby on Sunday evening.

Ayembe, who had been ruled out for four months, made his return to the side during their 3-0 win over Randers as a 70th minute substitute, and followed it up with another cameo appearance during their loss to Brondby.

He featured for 64 minutes as a right back and made one interception, during which he also registered a key pass and generally bombed up and down the flank well before being withdrawn.

He will be hoping he can finally win his sixth cap for Harambee Stars at the upcoming Malawi Four Nations tournament, where they will be facing the hosts this coming Saturday, 23rd March 2024.

Anyembe’s pass could have become an assist when he set up Anosike Ementa from deep, but the latter sent it just wide.

Lyngby took the lead in the 43rd minute when a cross was whipped towards the back post, where Magnus Jensen won a header duel and pushed the ball on to Andreas Bjelland, who put the ball into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for Viborg when Ibrahim Said stepped on Marcel Rømer after a fierce duel, resulting in a send off following a VAR review.

3 minutes into the second half, it was close to an equalizer when Anyembe set up Ementa but they missed, before Lyngby scored their second goal

A corner kick was whipped towards the back post before Andri Gudjohnsen headed it  home.

Viborg finished the regular season ninth with that defeat, and will have to do well in the relegation playoff to ensure they play top flight football next season.
