After just one season at Stade de Reims Joseph Okumu is in talks with AS Roma to bolster their defense.

AS Roma are in advanced talks to secure a deal for Harambee Stars and Stade de Reims defender Joseph Okumu as Daniele De Rossi looks to bolster his squad for the upcoming season.

The Italian giants have identified the 27-year-old as their next target, following the recent acquisition of Enzo Le Fee.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma are very fond of the Kenyan international and have communicated their interest to the player’s representatives.

The news portal claims that it will take around €15 million (Ksh 2.1 billion) to sign Okumu from Reims.

Okumu joined Reims in March 2023 from Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent, where he made a significant impact.

Before his stint in Belgium, Okumu turned out for Swedish side Elfsborg, showcasing his talents on the European stage.

Tracing his roots back to Chemelil town in Kisumu, Okumu's journey to the top tiers of European football is an inspiring tale.

He joined Chemelil Sugar in January 2016 straight from Kakamega High School, quickly making a name for himself in the local league.

His impressive performances earned him a senior national team debut on May 31 that year in a friendly match against Sudan in Nairobi, where he played in central defense alongside Brian Mandela in a 1-1 draw.

With his stock rising, Okumu soon joined his role model Mandela in South Africa’s Premier League upon recommendation by former national team captain Musa Otieno.

His time in South Africa further honed his defensive skills making him a sought-after talent in Europe.

If finalized the move would mark another significant milestone in Okumu's career, providing him with the opportunity to showcase his talent in one of the world's top football leagues.
