Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor faces a must-win match as his charges take on Bandari looking to exorcise the demons of their last two matches.
Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor has his work cut out as his team take on Bandari at Mbaraki Sports Complex in Mombasa in an FKF Premier League clash on Friday.
Akonnor has seen his team lose back-to-back games, first a shock 4-1 loss to APs Bomet, before last Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby defeat, which Gor Mahia lost 1-0.
While the loss to APs Bomet was seen as a bad day at the office, the defeat to Leopards was unforgivable but Gor Mahia supporters swallowed it nonetheless given Ingwe were by far the better team on the day.

‘We Were Kind of Scared’ - Gor Mahia Defender Gives Assessment of Mashemeji Derby Loss
Gor Mahia defender Bryton Onyona has opened up about what led to their poor display against AFC Leopards, leading to their loss in the 98th Mashemeji Derby.
Gor Mahia Must Beat Struggling Bandari
If that was not enough, Akonnor’s comments that his team was bullied by Leopards were interpreted to mean K’Ogalo were not ready for the biggest game on the league calendar, further straining his relationship with the unhappy fans.
Now, the Ghanaian has a chance to right those wrongs as Gor Mahia face crisis-ridden Bandari, who sacked Moroccan coach Mohamed Borji on Thursday after just two months in the job.
Borji was dismissed after a poor run of results that saw the dockers win just one of their last eight matches, with five draws and two defeats over that period, leaving the Mombasa-based club in an unfamiliar 14th position on the FKF Premier League table with 12 points from 11 games.

Gor Mahia Chairman Responds to Calls to Sack Coach After Mashemeji Derby Loss
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has dismissed calls from a section of fans to sack Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor in the wake of his team’s defeat to AFC Leopards.
Recent Head-to-Head Favours K’Ogalo
That is eight points behind leaders Kenya Police and not good enough for a team that habours title ambitions. A day before Borji was sacked, and goalkeeper trainer Razak Siwa installed on interim basis, Bandari had dissolved the team’s entire board in a bid to shake up things for a better second half of the season.
That is not therefore a team that Gor Mahia fans will accept to lose to and they will not stomach a third defeat in a row, adding an extra layer of pressure on Akonnor, who had looked to be cruising nicely after winning six and drawing one of their seven games before the setback to Bomet.
Recent history favours Gor Mahia in this fixture as they won home and away last season and in their last five meetings, K’Ogalo have three wins and two for Bandari
