National Division One side's van caught fire on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway post-match causing major financial loss.

National Division One side GFE 105 experienced a harrowing encounter when their team van caught fire on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, following a goalless draw against St Joseph FC.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported, but the incident has left a significant financial burden on the club, with the van, valued at Ksh 4.5 million, reduced to shell.

The accident occurred under the cloak of night, casting an eerie glow along the highway.

Players and staff, still reeling from the intense match, were thrust into a battle against time as they evacuated the burning vehicle.

"On Sunday, on our way from Nakuru after playing our match against St Joseph FC, our van caught fire and was completely burned down together with the balls and boots," the club recounted in a statement.

The van, whose ownership is yet to be established, was a significant asset for the Eldoret-based outfit.

"The players were in shock but we give thanks to God for no player was hurt. Our focus shifts to our weekend game on Saturday at our home, Kipchoge Stadium against Sunderland Naivasha FC," the club added.

This incident marks another challenging chapter in GFE 105's storied history.

The team earned promotion to Division One in 2023, signaling a strong comeback in their quest to return to the National Super League, where they once featured.

The club has had its share of remarkable moments, notably in 2020 when they defeated FKF-PL champions Gor Mahia in the FKF Cup quarters.

However, their path has not been without setbacks as the team faced relegation from the NSL to Division One and even to Division Two before clawing back to Division One at the start of the season.
