Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic has made a bold decsion after dropping a player who defied his orders and attended a relative's wedding.
Trouble is brewing in the Croatian national team as according to Sportske Novosti, manager Zlatko Dalic has removed Luka Sucic from contention for upcoming squads, starting with Monday's announcement for the September World Cup 2026 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Montenegro.
The issue stems from an incident in June. During the training camp for the match against the Czech Republic, the Real Sociedad midfielder requested leave from Dalic to attend his sister's wedding in Uskoplje. Dalic flatly refused, stating that if Sucic left, he needn't bother returning, even if he made it back in time for the Czech game, which Croatia won 5-1.
Sucic disregarded the warning and attended the wedding, despite advice from captain Luka Modric to reconsider. Modric reportedly pointed out that his sister had already postponed her wedding several times due to his commitments with Real Madrid and the national team.

Manchester United Give Fans Reasons to Believe in Narrow Defeat to Arsenal
Arsenal secured a Premier League opening day win away at Manchester United but the Red Devils' display left a lot to be hopeful about.
Dalic felt undermined by Sucic's actions. By excluding the Real Sociedad player, he's sending a clear message: the national team and country come first, especially given that match dates are known well in advance.
This isn't the first time Dalic has taken a hard line. In June 2022, defender Duje Caleta-Car left camp to attend his own wedding in Dubrovnik. Dalic subsequently benched him for the three matches during that international break and excluded him from the national team for two years, meaning Caleta-Car missed both the World Cup in Qatar and last year's European Championship in Germany.
