Kenya Police FC have suffered a setback after CAF dismissed their appeal against Al Hilal, who will now proceed to the CAF Champions League group stage.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee has officially rejected the appeal lodged by Kenya Police FC against Sudan's Al Hilal, definitively confirming the Sudanese Giant's right to proceed in the CAF Champions League group stage.

This pivotal decision, received by the General Secretariat of Al Hilal Club on November 17, 2025, one day before the start of their first group stage match, brings the eligibility dispute to a close.

The complaint was raised following the second leg of the preliminary round, where Al Hilal defeated Kenya Police FC 3-1 at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi on October 24, 2025, securing a 4-1 aggregate win after their 1-0 win in the first leg.

Kenya Police FC's appeal, supported by a detailed memorandum from the Kenyan Football Federation, focused on the participation eligibility of Al Hilal players Soufian Farid Ouédraogo, Sunday Damilare Adetunji, and Ernest Luzolo.

CAF Champions League: Al Hilal Responds to Complaint

In a post on their Facebook page, Al Hilal Club confirmed that the complaint from Kenyan Police FC focused on the eligibility of three of its players.

The club highlighted that at the moment they learnt of the appeal, they made a swift response from its administrative team.

“Immediately upon receiving the detailed complaint, a small team led by Secretary General Dr. Hassan Ali Issa and Executive Secretary Mr. Yasser Hassan Ibrahim reviewed the case, with guidance requested from Engineer Muhammad Ibrahim Aliqui, Vice President and Head of the Sports Sector,” Al Hilal said in its statement.

The Disciplinary Committee of CAF initially postponed its review, allowing the club time to provide the payments, legal explanations, and documentation.

According to Al Hilal: “The Disciplinary Committee of the Continental Union, Hilal addressed a complaint on November 14 and postponed it until five o'clock on November 17 to respond to it, accompanied by the payments and legal explanations required.”

CAF Rejects Kenya Police FC Complaint, Confirms Player Eligibility

Al Hilal emphasised that CAF’s Disciplinary Committee examined the rules on player transfers and registrations, as outlined by the Sudan Football Federation.

“It has been brought to our attention that the list of rules for transfers and registration of players for the Sudan Football Federation allows only 10 foreign players (with the list attached). Emphasising that, according to the ‘CAF’ list, a player is not eligible to participate in his competitions unless he is eligible to participate in the national competition,” the club explained further in the statement.

The statement confirmed that all documents, translated into English from Sudanese regulations, validated the legality of the players’ participation.

“All that came from the speech of the disciplinary committee supported by all the regulations concerning the situations and transfers of players, made by the Sudanese Union, after being translated into English, which confirmed the eligibility and legality of the players' participation in the course of the complaint,” Al Hilal added.

Implications for Al Hilal Club

The rejection of Kenyan Police FC’s complaint allows Al Hilal to focus on its CAF group stage campaign without distractions.

The club praised the professionalism and timely actions of its officials, which were key in presenting all necessary information to CAF.

“The prompt and detailed submissions from the Secretary General and the Executive Secretary, followed by the Sports Sector leadership, ensured that the Disciplinary Committee had all the necessary information to take its decision,” Al Hilal stated.

Al Hilal Club is now fully focused on its upcoming CAF Champions League matches, confident that its squad meets all regulatory requirements and ready to compete without further off-field controversies.
