Egyptian Derby headlines exciting weekend of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Quarterfinal action

CAF Champions League quarterfinals are set to resume this Saturday with three highly anticipated matches scheduled across the continent.

The first leg of the quarterfinals kicked off with defending champions Al Ahly securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Simba SC of Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Friday night.

Despite facing a roaring 60,000 capacity crowd, Al Ahly showcased their experience by clinching a hard-fought win, courtesy of an early goal by Ahmed Kouka.

The Egyptian giants now carry the advantage into the second leg in Cairo, aiming to seal their spot in the next round in front of their home supporters.

CAF Champions League action continues on Saturday as Angola’s Petro de Luanda prepares for a challenging encounter against former champions TP Mazembe.

The Congolese side, eager for continental glory since their 2015 triumph, will pose a formidable challenge for Petro de Luanda.

Later in the evening, Ivorian powerhouse Asec Mimosas will lock horns with Tunisian giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis to conclude the first leg of the quarterfinals.

Turning to the CAF Confederation Cup, a thrilling Super Sunday awaits football fans as all four quarterfinal duels are slated to take place.

In the afternoon fixture, Nigeria’s Rivers United will clash with defending champions USM Alger. The Algerian side, boasting the status of title holders, will be wary of Rivers United's threat, particularly on home turf.

Ghana’s Dreams FC will face off against Mali’s Stade de Malien in an away fixture, with both teams eyeing a crucial first-leg advantage.

Former champions RS Berkane aim to reclaim the title they lost to USMA as they travel to Libya to take on the unpredictable Abu Salem. The match holds special significance for Libyan football, marking the return of CAF Inter-Club football to the nation after playing their matches away from home.

The highlight of the Super Sunday fixtures features the Egyptian derby, as 2019 champions Zamalek seek to end their continental trophy drought against newcomers Modern Future FC.
