Leverkusen draw against Roma to head to the final with the draw marking their 49th game unbeaten this season.

Nicknamed ‘Neverkusen’ due to not winning a Bundesliga title in their 120-year history before this season, Leverkusen rewrote history with an amazing statement draw in the Europa semi-final.

Now that Leverkusen already changed that narrative after being crowned Bundesliga champions, they can add the Europa League trophy to their shelf as they become the first team ever in Europe to go unbeaten for a full season while taking part in European competition.

Bayern Leverkusen have now gone 49 games without a single defeat this season, drawing 2-2 with AS Roma on Thursday in the Europa League semifinal second leg.

The accolade seemed to be out of their reach after they went 2-0 down after a second penalty was converted by Paredes.

Just like Real Madrid a day earlier, Xabi Alonso’s men managed to score two goals in the closing fifteen minutes to secure a draw. They have now surpassed Benfica’s record from 1963-1965 and hold the mark for the longest unbeaten streak in Europe. The German side will face Atalanta for the trophy on Wednesday 22 May.

In the final 10 minutes of their games, Leverkusen outscored their opponents 32-5 in all competitions! When it gets to past the 90th minute, things get amazing for Alonso’s men as they have scored fourteen times, turning five matches into victories and three others into draws.

In their 49-match unbeaten streak, they have drawn only nine times. With an invincible treble on the line, Leverkusen can accomplish something that has never been done before.

With Alonso on board to coach the team next season, the story is far from an end as they still have matches remaining against Bochum and Augsburg in the Bundesliga, Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal and Atalanta in the final.

Amazing fact: Leverkusen have never lost a match since May 27, 2023, only 17 days away from making it an unbeaten calendar year. Also, on this day, they fell 3-0 to Bochum who are their next opponent in the Bundesliga. Will Alonso’s soldiers crumble in this test?
