Barcelona have announced Xavi Hernández's departure as coach after a disappointing season, ahead of their final game against Sevilla.

Barcelona have officially announced that Xavi Hernández will not continue as the head coach after the club's final game of the season against Sevilla this Sunday.

The decision marks a significant shift just weeks after assurances were made that Xavi would remain at the helm until the end of his contract in 2025.

"Barcelona president Joan Laporta has communicated to Xavi Hernández that he will not continue as coach for the 2024-25 season," the club stated.

This conversation, confirming the end of Xavi's tenure, was held at the training ground in the presence of vice president Rafa Yuste and sporting directors, including Deco.

Xavi’s departure comes after a season that fell below the high expectations following their La Liga title win in the previous year.

Barcelona finds themselves trailing their arch-rivals Real Madrid by 12 points, with just the final fixture left to play. Additionally, their Champions League campaign ended prematurely at the quarter-final stage, with a defeat to Paris St-Germain.

Despite these challenges, Barcelona took a moment to acknowledge Xavi's contributions both as a player and a coach.

"Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world," the club expressed in a heartfelt statement.

His coaching stint, although now ending sooner than initially planned, was marked by a commitment to the style and ethos that define the Catalan giants.

Under his guidance last season, the team recaptured the La Liga title, showcasing a blend of tactical acumen and inspirational leadership.

In the coming days, Barcelona is expected to unveil their new coaching structure for the upcoming season.

The change aims to rejuvenate the team and steer them back to their winning ways after a season that did not meet the lofty standards set by their successes in the past.
