Asante Kotoko's coach expressed satisfaction after securing a significant win over rivals Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League.

Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum is riding high on the wave of jubilation after his team clinched a resounding 2-0 victory over their arch-rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, in the Ghana Premier League.

This win at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium not only completed a season double over the Phobians but also boosted the team’s morale as they aim to finish the season strongly.

In a spirited match watched by legions of enthusiastic supporters, Ugandan striker Steve Dese Mukwala was the hero of the day, netting both goals that secured the victory for the Porcupines.

The triumph has lifted Asante Kotoko to ninth place in the league standings with 43 points.

Speaking to reporters after the match, an elated Coach Ogum could not hide his satisfaction with the performance of his squad.

“Beating Hearts of Oak back to back it’s not an easy job, so I’m happy I think it’s an honor for this group of players it’s been a while since I think this thing happened. I’m not very sure of when this actually happened but it’s been a while so we are all happy and you could see when the final result was blown,” he stated as per Citi Sports.

The significance of this victory cannot be overstated as it comes at a critical juncture of the season, providing a vital boost to the team’s confidence.

While Asante Kotoko are looking to capitalize on their current form, the loss has put Hearts of Oak in a precarious position.

The Phobians now sit 14th in the league just a few points above the relegation zone which adds pressure as the season nears its conclusion.

Asante Kotoko is set to face Accra Great Olympics in their next match on Sunday, June 2, 2024, hoping to maintain their winning momentum.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak will attempt to bounce back against Nations FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, May 31, 2024.
