Virgil van Dijk has praised Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, stating he will always be remembered for his contributions to the club.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes Trent Alexander-Arnold will be remembered as a club great as the defender enters the final weeks of his current contract.
Van Dijk encouraged the right-back, who is strongly tipped to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, to savour his match-winning goal against Leicester City on Sunday.
The defender netted the game’s only goal in the 1-0 win for Arne Slot’s men at the King Power Stadium, his first-ever left-footed goal for the club.

What Van Dijk said about Alexander-Arnold
The Liverpool captain emphasised that whatever Alexander-Arnold's future holds beyond this season, his significant contributions during his nine years in the first team at Anfield should be acknowledged.

“Since I’ve joined the club, he has been a fantastic player and there’s a lot of good things that he will always be remembered for if he decides to leave,” said Van Dijk. “But listen, at this point we don’t know as a group what’s going to happen.
“Whatever may happen in the future for him, that’s something that he has to resolve with himself and the family. But he’s a Liverpool player at this point and he’s important for our team.
“He has been important throughout the whole season and again he came back from the injury, a long one, and that’s what I’m happy about. He’s back in and amongst us and we have still five more games so hopefully he can be important for the rest of the games.”

The Reds' last victory kept them 13 points clear of Arsenal with five games remaining.
What’s next for Liverpool?
Liverpool could claim the title this week if Arsenal slip up against Crystal Palace.
Otherwise, the Reds will have to wait until Sunday for success over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield to clinch their second Premier League crown.
