“Surround yourself with only people that are going to lift you higher.” This quote by Oprah Winfrey applies in today's world, especially in football competitions featuring different teams. The better the players on the roster, the better the team performs internationally and locally.

As such, it isn't surprising that soccer teams go above and beyond to secure fast-rising players and established players that can improve their standing and steer them to trophies.

As we await the start of the 2025/2026 season in most major leagues worldwide, teams have been busy in the transfer market. And although the transfer window hasn't closed, some clubs have sealed some big deals. Ride along as we run you through six of the biggest transfers we've seen in this year's summer window.

1. Florian Wirtz: Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool

Liverpool won the 2024/2025 EPL campaign and aren't looking at backing down in the new season. This commitment is backed by the signing of excellent Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, Florian Wirtz, in a deal estimated to be worth around £116 million (£100 million signing fee and £16 million in potential bonuses). This move surpasses the £115 million Chelsea splurged on Moises Ciacedo in 2024.

The 22-year-old playmaker has been compared to Kevin De Bruyne in terms of his vision, technicality, and creativity. He'll be wearing the number 7 shirt for the Reds and is primed to play a vital role as Liverpool remains on its charge to keep the EPL on lock and acquire other European trophies.

2. Hugo Ekitike: Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool

After being informed by Newcastle United that Alexander Isak wasn't for sale, despite the player submitting a transfer request, Liverpool cemented its move for French striker Hugo Ekitike from German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. This move cost the Reds a total of £79 million (£69 million as the initial fee and the remainder in potential add-ons).

With a height of 1.9 meters, Hugo has the physical presence needed to unsettle defenders and win air duels. That said, he also has electric pace, an attribute that'll most likely increase Liverpool's effectiveness during counter attacks.

3. Bryan Mbeumo: Brentford to Manchester United

At the start of the year, Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand had this to say about his old team: “I don't know if I've seen a United team this bad. It's been embarrassing in all different facets of the game.”

This quote encapsulates Manchester United’s season in the last campaign. For context, the team finished in 15th place last season and bottled their only shot at silverware in the UEL final showdown against Tottenham Hotspur.

In a bid to turn things around this season, the Red Devils have secured the signature of former Brentford forward, Bryan Mbeumo, in a deal valued to be around £70 million. With Rasmus Højlund not delivering the goods in recent seasons, the team will turn to attacking talents like Mbeumo to hit the back of the net regularly.

4. Victor Osimhen: Napoli to Galatasaray

Once upon a time, Victor Osimhen was treasured by Napoli fans. However, when Antonio Conte became head coach, the striker was informed that his services weren't required anymore. As such, he was shipped to Galatasaray.

The striker picked up from where he left Italy last season, delivering 37 goals and 8 assists for the Süper Ligue side. This was enough incentive for Galatasaray to retain his services. It wasn't easy at first; however, the club later struck a deal estimated to be around €75 million, effectively smashing the record for the most expensive player in the league.

5. Luis Diaz: Liverpool to Bayern Munich

While Liverpool has strengthened their squad for the upcoming season, they've lost one of their valiant wingers in Luis Diaz. Bayern Munich secured his services in a £65.5 million deal. Ranked as one of the best left wingers currently, Luis Diaz will definitely add to Munich’s attacking strength with nimble dribbles and long-range strikes.

With Luis Diaz and other top signings expected to grace Bayern Munich's roster in the new season, their start to the Bundesliga campaign will most likely be electric. For fans who engage in sports betting, this could be a nice opportunity to make some cash. Markets such as both teams to score, over 1.5 goals, and handicap could be nice options to wager on.

6. Viktor Gyokeres: Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal

Some players take control of their destinies, and Viktor Gyokeres is one of them. The Sporting Lisbon striker submitted a transfer request to the club's management and refused to take part in any team activities to join the Gunners. His antics finally paid off, and Arsenal agreed a deal worth $63.5 million with Sporting Lisbon.

Last campaign, Viktor Gyokeres led the goal scoring charts across all European leagues with 52 goals in 54 appearances for the Portuguese side. Arsenal has been lacking a natural “9” for many seasons; as such, Gyokeres joining the team could chart the Gunners on the path to EPL and UCL glory.
