The boxer once a vanished talent, is now a rising boxing star, seeking redemption in a title rematch against Syed Asif, defying odds.

On April 16, 2018, Kenyans woke up to the news that sent shockwaves through the nation, as one of their own, the talented boxer Brian Agina, had mysteriously disappeared during the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

It was a day of confusion, disbelief, and a tinge among the Kenyan delegation that was led by Barnaba Korir out of fear for the young pugilist's safety.

Little did anyone know that this unsettling incident would become a turning point in Agina's life, shaping him into the resilient fighter he is today.

As the headlines blared and the nation searched for answers, it became apparent that Agina had left behind his larger bag at the Athletes' Village, taking only a small backpack.

He had also borrowed $100 from his compatriot, Benson Gicharu, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games bantamweight bronze medalist, ostensibly to purchase a new pair of headsets.

It was a perplexing set of circumstances, leaving many to wonder what had led to his sudden disappearance.

For weeks, Agina's whereabouts remained a mystery, and speculation ran rampant. As family, friends, and the boxing fraternity held their collective breath, the young Kenyan boxer found himself in an unfamiliar world, far from home, and facing an uncertain future.

It was not until May 2018 that Agina was finally located, safe and sound, by Australian authorities. His reappearance marked the end of one chapter of his life's tumultuous journey and the beginning of another.

The details of his time in hiding remained shrouded in mystery, but what emerged was a boxer who had been tested both mentally and emotionally in ways few could fathom.

Despite the trials and tribulations he had endured, Agina's spirit remained unbroken after he received documentation to stay in Australia with newfound determination and a renewed sense of purpose.

The loss in the preliminary round of the 52-kilogram category at the Commonwealth Games had not broken his spirit. Instead, it fueled his desire to succeed and prove himself on a global stage.

In the years that followed, Agina's story took an inspiring turn as in 2021, he made his professional boxing debut, stepping into the ring with the weight of his past experiences behind him.

His opponent, Nitin Lal, felt the full force of Agina's determination as he succumbed to a technical knockout in the first round.

As Agina's professional career gained momentum, he continued to demonstrate his prowess as a boxer.

On May 6, 2023 he faced TL Mach and emerged victorious with a unanimous decision. His journey from a mysterious disappearance to a rising star in the boxing world was nothing short of remarkable.

Now, on September 16, 2023, Agina is set to face his past once again as he steps into the ring against the experienced Pakistani boxer Syed Asif.

It is a rematch that carries with it the weight of history and redemption as the two had previously clashed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, where Asif had emerged victorious by a split decision.

As the date of the fight approaches, Agina exudes a newfound confidence. "I will win this fight. I am different now," he declares as per Standard Warrnambool, his words carrying the weight of his journey and the countless hours of training and dedication he has poured into his craft.

As he steps into the ring at the Melbourne Pavilion to face Asif for the Australian Super heavyweight title, the memories of their past encounters will undoubtedly resurface.

But Agina has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving not only as a boxer but also as a person, with his journey from obscurity to triumph serving as a powerful source of inspiration for those who have witnessed his remarkable story.
