BOXING Boxing Federation of Kenya announce dates for Paris Olympics trials

KBF announced that the trials will take place from the end of June to the start of July.

The Boxing Federation of Kenya is set to host trials for the elite team, both men and women, who will participate in the Olympic qualifiers.

One of the events that will be used as a qualifier will be the African Games in Ghana to be held next year. The International Olympic Committee also announced that there will be two World Qualification events next year, with the dates and venues yet to be announced.

KBF announced that the trials will take place from Thursday, June 29, and run all the way to Sunday, July 1 at the Nairobi Charter Hall.

“Kindly be informed that only the boxers who are above intermediate level and are in the Olympic weights will be allowed to participate,” a statement released by BFK read in part.

The Olympic weights include Fly weight-51kgs, feather weight-57kgs, light welterweight-63.5kgs, light middleweight-71kgs, light heavyweight-80kgs, heavy weight-92kgs and super heavyweight-+92kgs, for the men.

For the women, it includes the light flyweight-50kgs, bantamweight-54kgs, featherweight-57kgs, lightweight-60kgs, welterweight-66kgs and middle weight-75kgs.

BFK also advised the coaches and players to prepare for the trials adequately and noted that the participation fee for the event is Ksh2000.
