Speaking after the race, Zablon Ekwam revealed that he was a late entrant into the race since his management had other plans.

He added that missing out on the World Championships qualifying time is disappointing, but he has several races to compete in before the deadline.

“I was not supposed to compete today because my management had other plans, but I decided to come. It's not a bad time, I just missed the World Championships qualification by mere seconds. I'm going to chase the qualification in the other races I have,” Zablon Ekwam said.

Zablon Ekwam started his 2025 season with a fifth-place finish in the 200m at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix before heading to the World Athletics Relays.

At the event, the men’s 4x400m relay team finished in distant fifth. Zablon Ekwam did not take too much time off as he proceeded to the sixth Athletics Kenya weekend meet, where he claimed his first win of the season, competing in the 200m.

Zablon Ekwam made his season debut in the 400m at the Kip Keino Classic, and finishing in the podium bracket is a sign that the Kenyan is on the right track.

He is now tasked with qualifying for the World Championships before it is too late, but from his impressive track record, Zablon Ekwam will surely get the job done.
