Julius Yego heads into his seventh World Championships in Tokyo determined to reach the final and fight for a medal after rediscovering his form this season.

Julius Yego is looking to leave a lasting impression as he gears up for his seventh World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled to begin from September 13 to 21.

The 2015 World champion has enjoyed a great career, making a mark at the World Championships and Olympic Games amid injury woes that have slowed him down, but he has since managed to rise to the top once again.

From his debut at the 2013 World Championships in Russia, where he finished fourth, Julius Yego has continued to impress on the global stage.

Julius Yego then went ahead to win the 2015 edition of the event in China, 13th in 2017 in London, and registered a No Mark in 2019. The former Olympic silver medallist then failed to make the final in Oregon in 2022 and Budapest in 2023.

Now, as he heads to Tokyo, Julius Yego is confident of making the final and hopefully claiming a medal in the competitive event.

This season, Julius Yego has been consistent in the Diamond League Meetings, starting his season in Doha, before also competing in Paris.

The African record holder then proceeded to win the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia, a huge confidence booster, he admits. He also finished fifth in Brussels and Zurich.

“I want to say this season has been great for me to be back at the Diamond League, even winning in Silesia was a huge bonus for me, and I got the confidence back as we head to the Tokyo World Championships. My main focus is to qualify for the final, and then I’ll plan how to get a medal,” Julius Yego said in an interview shared on Team Kenya’s X (Twitter) handle.

For Julius Yego, his seventh World Championships in Tokyo is more than just another competition as it represents the culmination of a career defined by both extraordinary highs and formidable lows.

His ambitious targets for this event are clear, showing that he is not just aiming for a personal best but looking to reaffirm his place among the world’s elite.

Julius Yego's journey from a self-taught athlete watching YouTube videos to an Olympic and World medalist is a story that has inspired countless others, and a medal in Tokyo would be the perfect final chapter.
