American sprint queen Sha'Carri Richardson has opened up on the reason behind her withdrawal from the Miramar Invitational.

World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson has withdrawn from her season opener at the Miramar Invitational that was scheduled for Saturday, April 6.

Fans had anticipated to watch the American open her season in style but she has been forced to withdraw from the event and would probably begin her campaign at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China.

Richardson shared a video on Instagram explaining the reason behind her decision.

“Hey everyone, I just want to let everybody know that I will not be competing this weekend in Miramar. I’m not going to be like most people who let you know about my decision on social media and you will hear from the horse’s mouth," she said.

“I will not be competing this weekend so I don’t want anybody to get their hopes up. It is going to be a great meet with great athletes but I won’t be among those athletes this weekend.

“Different year, different approach, and different energy to come. Just lock in, enjoy the meet, and stay tuned for when I’m supposed to step on the track,” added Richardson.

The American has not raced since the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League final, where she managed to finish an impressive fourth after having a long season.

She now gears up for a grand return to the Olympic Games in Paris, France after a disappointing outing during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games where she was banned and could not compete.
