Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's father has shared light-hearted parenting advice and expressed pride as his daughter prepares for motherhood.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s father, Willie McLaughlin, has shared wise parenting counsel with his daughter as she embarks on her motherhood journey.

At the same time, Willie McLaughlin also shared his pride, arguing that her daughter is one of the greatest track athletes of her generation, which is undeniably accurate.

Over the last decade, the American superstar has built an unparalleled legacy. She has won and defended her Olympic 400m hurdles title, a first for any woman.

She has shattered the 400m hurdles world record six times, contributed to five gold-medal-winning 4x400m relay teams, and made history as the first athlete to win World Championship titles in both the 400m hurdles and the 400m flat.

"The margins that you’re seeing her win by, she was doing that at six and seven years old," Willie McLaughlin told The Athletic. "When she would win and break world records again, we would be totally excited but not surprised."

However, her plans for 2026 are shifting away from the track. The McLaughlin-Levrone household is expanding, as she and her husband, Andre, are expecting their first child.

"It’s something my husband and I have been talking about for years," she said of her recently announced pregnancy.

"For me, motherhood is an opportunity to grow within myself in so many different ways," she explained. "I love the chance to impart the things that I’ve learned and the wisdom that I received onto the next generation. Being able to watch that in my own kids and see them grow up... I’m really excited."

When asked for parenting advice, Willie, a father of four, joked, "Just don’t be like her dad. I don’t think there’s much advice needed because we poured our lives into our kids."

Looking ahead, the New Jersey native, now based on the West Coast, has her sights set on the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, which promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime home competition.

The last time she competed at a major championship on US soil, she won 400m hurdles gold with a world record of 50.68s at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

"I wouldn’t say it’s pressure," she says of the upcoming LA Games. "It’s honestly a joy, a moment to celebrate. Living in LA right now, just thinking what that moment is going to be like in the Coliseum... hopefully I’ll be a part of that, representing my country."
