The 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson joins the 2025 Met Gala host committee, bringing her bold fashion and Texas flair to fashion’s biggest night.

World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson is taking her signature fierceness and fashion beyond the track and onto one of the most glamorous stages in the world: the 2025 Met Gala

The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York is set for May 5, and this year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, is the perfect fit for Richardson’s bold personality and unapologetic sense of style.

The Olympian joins an illustrious host committee that features some of the most influential names across sports, fashion, film, literature, and music.

Among them are her fellow Texan and legendary gymnast Simone Biles, Biles’ husband and NFL star Jonathan Owens, WNBA standout Angel Reese, and fashion icon André 3000.

“Being part of the Met Gala’s host committee is a dream come true,” Richardson said as per ABC News.

“Fashion is about expression, and I’ve always believed that how you present yourself to the world is a reflection of your confidence and identity.”

Born and raised in Dallas, Richardson attended Carter High School, where she dominated the track and set the foundation for her meteoric rise in sprinting.

She became a global sensation not just for her record-breaking speed but also for her vibrant hair colors, dramatic nails, and expressive fashion choices. Her influence extends beyond athletics, making her a natural fit for a night dedicated to celebrating Black style.

The 2025 Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will highlight the role of sartorial elegance in shaping Black identities.

According to Vogue, the exhibition will focus on the emergence, significance, and influence of the Black dandy, a style movement known for its refined tailoring and confident self-expression.

The dress code, Tailored for You, challenges attendees to showcase their personal interpretation of sophistication and heritage through fashion.

Richardson, 24, is known for her ability to make a statement, whether it’s on the track or at high-profile events.

Fans still remember her viral moment at the ESPYs when she walked the red carpet in a stunning floor-length gown that blended athleticism with high fashion.

She has often spoken about how her personal style is an extension of her personality and a form of empowerment.

Joining Richardson on the co-chair lineup are some of the biggest names in entertainment and sports, including actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, rapper and designer A$AP Rocky, and Grammy-winning producer and fashion mogul Pharrell Williams.

Additionally, NBA superstar LeBron James, now teamed up with Luka Dončić on the Los Angeles Lakers, will serve as an honorary co-chair.

“I think this year’s Met Gala is going to be something really special,” Richardson added.

“Black style has always been influential, and this is a chance to celebrate its elegance, creativity, and resilience.”

Beyond the track, Richardson has become a cultural force, inspiring young athletes and fashion enthusiasts alike.

After returning from the Paris Olympics with a gold in the 4x100-meter relay and a silver in the 100-meter dash, she solidified her place as one of the most electrifying sprinters of her generation.
