The course record of 58:42 (men) and 1:05:02 (women) will be at stake.
Kenya’s Sebastian Kimaru Sawe and Ethiopia’s Tsigie Gebreselama headline the men’s and women’s field respectively at Sunday’s Berlin Half Marathon.
In the men’s category, Sawe will be lining up as the fastest in the field with a personal best time of 58:02 over the 21km distance. He is, however, bound to face tough competition as three other men will be lining up with Personal Best (PB) times below the one-hour mark.

She revealed that she will be competing at the N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon on April 30.
Another Kenyan, Philemon Kiplimo will be in the mix with a PB time of 58:11. The race has also attracted defending champion Alex Kibet who won last year’s race to set a new PB of 58:55.
South Sudan’s Dominic Lobalu will definitely come as a strong challenger for the Kenyan trio. He has a PB of 59:12 and will also compete for top honors in the highly contested race.
The course record of 58:42 that was set by Eric Kiptanui in 2018 may also be at the risk of being shattered.
In the women’s race, Gebreselama comes into the field as the fastest with a PB of 1:05:46 that she ran to place second at last year’s Valencia Half Marathon. She will battle it out with the Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan of Great Britain.
McColgan is the British record holder with a PB time of 1:06:26. She will be intending to use the race as a buildup for her marathon debut in London. Ludwina Chepng’etich of Kenya will also be in the mix as the third fastest in the field with a life time best of 1:07:30.
The course record of 1:05:02 set by Sheila Chepkirui at last year’s edition of the event might also be in danger of being shattered.
