Oblique Seville got out of the blocks expertly before going on to maintain his form all the way to the finish, winning the race by daylight and leaving Noah Lyles and co in the dust.

Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville delivered a stunning upset in the men’s 100 meters at the Diamond League meet on Saturday, July 19, 2025, clocking a blazing 9.86 seconds to beat a world-class field that included American star Noah Lyles and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo.

The highly anticipated final, held under mild wind conditions (-0.6 m/s), saw Seville explode out of lane 4 and maintain composure through the finish line, cementing his status as a top contender ahead of the World Championships.

His winning time of 9.86 seconds was just 0.03 off his season best (SB) of 9.83.

Noah Lyles, racing in lane 5, came in second with a time of 10.00 seconds, marking his season best. Britain’s Zharnel Hughes took third in 10.02 seconds.

Veteran Jamaican sprinter Ackeem Blake finished fourth (10.08), while South Africa’s Akani Simbine climbed two positions from his qualifying rank to place fifth with 10.11, tied with Jeremiah Azu of Great Britain.

Tebogo, one of the pre-race favorites, managed only 10.12 for a disappointing seventh-place finish, with Britain’s Louie Hinchliffe closing out the field in 10.21.

The shock result continues Seville’s upward trajectory in 2025, solidifying his place among the elite as the World Championships draw near.
