Noah Lyles has revealed how the late Ralph Mann accurately predicted his Olympic 100m victory.

Noah Lyles has narrated how the late Ralph Mann unknowingly predicted that he would the men’s 100m final at the Paris Olympic Games.

The three-time world 200m champion revealed that during one of their interactions before the Olympic Games, the legendary Olympian gave him a picture of how the Olympic final would be.

Noah Lyles explained that he was aware the final would be tight, but since he was primed to win, he knew that the race would turn out close to what Ralph Mann had predicted.

Noah Lyles honoured the prediction and in the final, he indeed made history, winning America’s first title in the men’s 100m since the 2004 Olympic Games when Justin Gatlin won.

The right was tight, no doubt about it, and the triple world champion had to lean to have an advantage over Kishane Thompson. Noah Lyles was five-thousandths of a second faster than Kishane Thompson, as they both clocked 9.79 seconds to cross the finish line.

“I remember before the Olympic Games, he came and saw me and tested me and showed me how tight the Olympic Games would be. I liked the odds since each time the odds are placed on me, I’m always in front,” Noah Lyles shared.

The reigning Olympic 100m champion recalled when he first met the biomechanist in 2016 and he was not one of the best sprinters at the time.

Noah Lyles explained that Ralph Mann challenged him to work on a series of things, and since he wanted to prove him wrong, he started putting in the work.

Lyles revealed that every time Ralph Mann would go down to check up on him, he would have improved on some aspects and that is how he became better.

“I had been working with Ralph since 2016 when my coach Lance Brauman introduced me to him. I remember the first time I met him and he saw my biometrics when I ran at my first Olympic trials in 2016 and he was like, ‘You got some good stuff, you’re a little talented but you got all these faults.’,” Noah Lyles added.

“To prove him wrong, I was like the next time I would go meet him I would have to do all the right things. Every year, he would come back and be more impressed and be like, ‘Keep working at it and fiddling away.’”

However, Ralph Mann would not live long to see how Noah Lyles would progress this season and the many years to come. He lost his life on January 2, 2025, aged 75, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
