Russell edged out Tia Jones to run the second fastest time ever recorded in set Miami Grand Slam track off to a fantastic start.
Masai Russell has set the American record in the 100 meters women’s hurdles following a blistering 12.17 wind-legal run at the Miami Grand Slam Track on Friday afternoon.
Russell, who was looking to make amends for her disappointing showing in Kingston, Jamaica during the first leg, narrowly edged out Tia Jones, returning following a long spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury to run the second fastest time in the event.
Jones herself also ran the third fastest time in history, crossing the line second in 12.19 seconds.

1500m: Kerr Outkicks Nuguse and Hocker in Tactical Thriller
In one of the most anticipated rematches of the season, Josh Kerr surged down the homestretch to win the men’s 1500m in 3:34.51, leaving Yared Nuguse and Cole Hocker trailing in his wake.
The reigning Olympic medalists and world champion milers put on a tactical masterclass, but it was Kerr who flipped the script from Paris, where Nuguse had shined. Hocker secured third, while Marco Arop, the reigning world 800m champion, faded to seventh — a tough reminder of the challenge in stepping up to the 1500m.
