Kisii Express Mary Moraa has explained how her fiancee, Richard Lagat, has helped shape her athletics career.

Reigning Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa recently got engaged to the love of her life, Richard Lagat.

The 23-year-old got engaged at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when she had just landed from the USA after competing at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Moraa explained that her fiancée, Lagat, who is a former Volleyball player and currently, is playing a vital part in her career. Moraa noted that Lagat has massively helped her and has been a great adviser which has left her in awe.

“Everything has been okay on our side and he has been giving me support together with my coach, Alex Sang.

"We have been supporting each other because he is a volleyball coach and I’m an athlete so maybe when I need some advice I usually talk to him. He has been supporting me a lot,” Moraa said.

When asked about the wedding, the reigning World 800m champion explained that she could not say much about that but noted that it would happen. “I can’t say it’s when but when that day comes, I will surely invite all of you,” she said.

Meanwhile, Moraa got engaged to Lagat on a Tuesday night, September 19, after landing in the country. She was not aware of what her boyfriend had planned, a pleasant surprise that caught her off guard.

Down on one knee, he went, holding a placard written, “Will You Marry Me?” Moraa definitely said yes to the love of her life. According to Nation Sport, Moraa who had tears in her eyes said: “No words can express what I am feeling now. It’s a wonderful night."
