“I’m very good at making friends…right now I have a bracelet for Fred Kerley and I usually walk with it. I custom-made two of them and gave him one and he told me one time, I will be a champion and I should always remember that when I look at the bracelet.

“When I went to visit Lyles at the World Indoor, I also gifted Lyles a bracelet he said the same thing to me.

"He told me that I have the potential of becoming a champion and he advised me to stay consistent and focus on what I love most because it will pay off. I learnt a lot from the duo, I want to do more and get to the levels Lyles is at,” Ekwam said.

Meanwhile, at the World Indoor Championships Ekwam, who was part of the men’s 4x400m relay team that also included Wiseman Were, Kelvin Tauta, and Boniface Mweresa, clocked an African record of 3:06.71 to finish fourth in the hotly contested race.

The race was won by Team Belgium who clocked 3:02.54 and were closely followed by Team USA with the Netherlands sealing the podium.
