Jonah Koech's kick in the final 200 meters allowed him to power his way to victory, getting over the line ahead of Ronald Cheruiyot and Festus Lagat to clinch the victory in the 1500 meters.

Jonah Koech, the Kenyan-born American middle-distance runner, delivered a stunning upset in the men’s 1500m at the Rabat Diamond League, clocking a massive personal best of 3:31.43 to beat Kenya’s Reynold Cheruiyot and Festus Lagat.

In a race that saw a blistering opening 400m in 55.18 seconds, the field was clearly chasing a world lead. France’s Azeddine Habz set the early pace and held the lead past 1200m in 2:50, still in front at the bell (2:36). However, it was Koech, who switched allegiance from Kenya to the U.S. in 2022, that unleashed a powerful final sprint to snatch victory in the closing meters.

Timothy Cheruiyot’s younger brother, Reynold, came home second in a season’s best 3:31.78, while Festus Lagat claimed third in a lifetime best of 3:32.06.
