The national trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary are scheduled for Friday to Saturday (July 7-8).
Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and double world record holder Faith Kipyegon headline the list of athletes invited to participate in the national trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Omanyala, the second fastest 100m athlete in the world so far this year will be up against Boniface Mweresa, Steve Onyango, and Hesbon Ochieng who have also been invited to participate in the 100m.

ATHLETICS Omanyala yet to receive Ksh 2million reward from government
The sprinter was awarded a token of Ksh 2 million while Kipyegon was given Ksh 5 million and a house during their visit to the State House on June 13.
Stephen Oluoch, Samwel Chege, Robinson Motende, and Dan Kiviasi complete the list of 100m athletes. In the women’s field, Esther Mbagari, Monica Safania, and Eunice Kadogo are the only athletes who have been selected.
In the men’s 200m, Mweresa, Chege, Kiviasi, Oluoch, and Onyango have been selected. In the women’s field, Millicent Ndoro will join the 100m trio to fight for top honours.
The men’s 400m will see newly-crowned National champion Zablon Ekwam, Mweresa, Kelvin Sawe, Laban Kipkorir, and Samwel Toili fight for the top honours. Youngster Elkanah Chemelil, Emmanuel Mutua, William Rayian, and Jared Momanyi have also been added to the star-studded field.
In the women’s 400m, Kisii Express Mary Moraa headlines the field and she’ll be joined by Mercy Oketch, Maureen Nyatichi, Ndoro, Mercy Chebet, and Veronica Mutua.
In the men’s 400m Hurdles, Wiseman Were and Moitalel Mpoke have been selected. In the men’s 800m, world and Olympic champion Emmanuel Korir, former world under-20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Wycliffe Kinyamal are set to clash.
The trio will be joined by Collins Kipruto, Nicholas Kiplangat, Noah Kibet, Elias Ngeny, Ferguson Rotich, and Koitatoi Kidali. In the women’s field, Moraa will be up against Susan Ejore, Vivian Chebet, Naumglorious Chpechumab, Sylvia Chesere, and Peninah Muthoni.

ATHLETICS Hellen Obiri backs Faith Kipyegon to break another record before the season ends
Kipyegon, in a span of one week, managed to break the 1500m and 5000m world records.
Over the men’s 1500m, 2019 World champion Timothy Cheruiyot headlines the field that has also attracted Abel Kipsang, reigning world under-20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot, Vincent Keter, Etyang Kamar, and Kyumbe Munguti.
Others invited are Victor Kipkirui, Charles Cheboi, former world champion Elijah Manangoi, Festus Lagat, and Mathew Kipsang.
The women’s field will see on form Kipyegon take on a field that has also attracted youngster Nelly Chepchirchir, Judith Kiyeng, Brenda Chebet, Ednah Jebitok, and Winnie Chebet. Lydia Jeruto, Mirriam Cherop, former world under-20 champion Purity Chepkirui and Nancy Cherop have also been invited.
In the women’s 3000m Steeplechase, world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech leads a field that has also attracted Jackline Chepkoech, Faith Cherotich, and Celestine Biwott. Caren Chebet, Pamela Kosgei, Fancy Jerono, Purity Cherotich, and Diana Chepkemoi are also in the mix.
In the men’s field, two-time world champion Conseslus Kipruto, Abraham Kibiwott, Leonard Bett, Benjamin Kigen, Amos Serem, and Lawrence Kipsang have been invited. Others included in the list of invitees include Amos Kirui, Simon Koech, Geoffrey Kipkemoi, Haron Kibet, and Emmanuel Wafula.
Nicholas Kimeli headlines the 5000m men’s field and he will be joined by Daniel Simiu, Jacob Krop, Richard Etir, Bernard Kibet, and Emmanuel Kiplagat.

ATHLETICS Keely Hodgkinson disappointed after bitter loss to Kenyan ace Mary Moraa in Lausanne
Moraa clocked 1:57.43 to cross the finish line as Hodgkinson followed in 1:58.37.
Benson Kiplagat, Cornelius Kemboi, Levy Kibet, and youngster Ishmael Kipkurui also make the list. Cheruiyot, Robert Kiprop, and Raphael Dabash have also been included.
Kipyegon has also been invited for the women’s 5000m where she is set to clash with Beatrice Chebet, Lilian Kasait, Margaret Chelimo, Agnes Ngetich, and Grace Loibach. Margaret Akidor, Selah Jepleting, Pauline Kamulu, Caroline Nyaga, Doris Jerop, Chebet, and Naomi Chepngeno have also been included.
Sebastian Sawe and Catherine Reline headline the men’s and women’s 10,000m respectively. A number of athletes participating in the 5000m will also be competing in the 10,000m including Chebet, Kibet, Krop, and Loibach. Kibiwott Kandie has also been invited for the 10,000m.
In the men's javelin, 2015 world champion Julius Yego will be up against Alexander Kiprotich, Duncan Kinyanchui, and Ita Nao Leshan. In the women's category, Irene Jepkemboi has been invited alongside Gladys Jepkemboi, Martha Musai, and Salome Moraa.
