Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Housing Finance Corporation to open avenues for sportsmen and women to own decent homes.

Tuwei expressed optimism that by signing the MOU, athletes will be able to enjoy the benefits of having a roof over their heads for the rest of their lives.

“This partnership between AK and HFC Group is an assurance of a secure and peaceful future for all who enlist in this scheme. This is exactly what this partnership offers to tens of thousands of athletes in this country,” he said.

Tuwei was in the company of Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, Deputy Commissioner General of Kenya Prisons Catherine Ndereba, and AK Vice President Paul Mutui among other relevant stakeholders.

Mary Moraa who is fresh from winning the 800m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Wiseman Were, Dan Kiviasi and World Cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet include some of the athletes who were in attendance.

On his part, CS Namwamba lauded AK for the bold move and noted that the government is fully rallying behind them.

"As we celebrate 60 years as a nation, we want to see our athletes, sit back and take pride in their achievement and enjoy the comfort of a decent and dignified home for themselves,” he added.

Meanwhile, HFC CEO Robert Kibaara said: "As a bank, we are committed to strategic partnerships that enrich lives and strongly believe that through this partnership, we will empower our gallant sportsmen and women to gain to access credit and own their homes."
