The Australian youngster has taken the athletics world by storm over the last 12 months, eclipsing a host of milestones previously held by the great retired Jamaican. Last year, he underlined his potential by taking silver in the 200m at the Under-20 World Championship.

He is now looking forward to representing his country in the same distance at the senior World Athletics Championship in Tokyo in September after breaking the Oceanian record and the longstanding Australian record.

Given his growing profile, Gout has already mixed with some of the top sprint stars and has formed a strong bond with American Lyles. The pair trained together in January , Florida for two weeks, and have maintained a cordial relationship.

Gout Gout finally opened up a out the nickname given to him, telling the Mirror: “He calls me ‘Little Bro’ so we definitely have a great connection.

"Obviously, I gave him a nudge. I said in the podcast (Gout appeared on Lyles’ podcast earlier this year), I told him I’d be running up his a--, for sure. It's definitely great. He messages me occasionally and I tell him ‘Congratulations’ and stuff like that. He’s a great guy.”

Lyles has also given Gout some guidance, despite the fact that the pair could soon be direct rivals on the track.

Time is on Gout’s side, and he has made no secret of his desire to dominate the sprint scene like Bolt did at the end of the 2000s and the 2010s. He said: “The goal is winning the Olympics and winning World Championships. Honestly, dominating like Bolt did. I think that limit is reachable for me.”

Looking beyond this year’s World Championship, Gout is eyeing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2032 Games, which will be staged in his home city of Brisbane.
