Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri will headline stardust athletes dueling for honors at the New York City half marathon slated for March 19, 2023.

Obiri is the fastest in the women’s field with a personal best time of 1:04:22 that she clocked at the 2022 Ras Al Khaimah half marathon. She kicked-off the season with a big win at the Ras Al Khaimah where she cut the tape in 1:05:05.

The 2016 Olympic 5000m silver medallist also made her debut at last year’s New York City marathon where she settled for sixth place in 2:25:49.

In the 21km race, she will be joined by Irene Cheptai who has a personal best time of 1:06:42 over the distance. Cheptai is the 2022 Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. This will be Cheptai’s first race of the season.

In the men’s field, Kennedy Kimutai lines up as the second fastest in the field with a personal best time of 58:28.

Kimutai will enjoy the company of compatriot Edward Cheserek, one of the most decorated track and field athlete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) history.

Cheserek has a personal best time of 1:00:13 over the distance. The five-time NCAA champion started the season at the Houston half marathon where he settled for eighth place in 1:01:51 and he will be looking to go one step better as he lines up on March 19.

On his part, Kimutai will be hoping to start his season with a good performance at the event.
