Olympics 10,000m and 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet has revealed her World Championships plans following questions over whether she will contest the double in Tokyo.
Double Olympics champion Beatrice Chebet has commented about the possibility of going for the 5,000m and 10,000m double at the World Championships.
Chebet executed a masterclass at the Paris 2024 Olympics, when she won gold in both 10,000m and 5,000m, and heading to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September, the question is whether she will go for it again.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net, Chebet admits she plans to go for the double over both distances again as she looks to add the only medal still missing from her bulging collection.

"Yes, I am planning to do the double. I tried it at the Olympics for the first time and I won even though I struggled a bit and it was difficult to recover well for the second event," said Chebet, who is the world record holder in both races.

Beatrice Chebet Predicts Podium Sweep for Kenyan Women in Team-Up With Faith Kipyegon

"I was also a bit scared. But now, I feel I am a bit stronger and more experienced and the confidence is high. I will go there and do my best and the target is to bring a medal home in both events."
Chebet is not just looking for a medal but the identity and colour matters this time as she already has silver and bronze, both in 5,000m, from the World Championships, and therefore anything other than gold in Tokyo will be considered a massive disappointment.
Winning gold will, however, be a tall order in both races as Chebet will come up against a formidable cast that includes her friend and defending world 5,000m champion Faith Kipyegon, Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay and Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan among others.

Beatrice Chebet On Why She is Not Losing Sleep Over Her New World Record Being Broken Soon
Beatrice Chebet, who set a new 5,000m world record last week, has explained why she would still be happy even if her time is broken immediately.
The 25-year-old will, however, back herself to pull off another double act, just like she did in Paris, given she is in the form of her life as she has remained unbeaten this year and broke the 5,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic just over a week ago.
