Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has expressed his gratitude ahead of being conferred an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Sciences, by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology.

“It means a lot to me…it’s an honour to what I have been doing behind the scenes. It’s a real award to what I have actually been doing to the human.

"Especially, as far as giving motivation and hope to the general public. Hope is what makes us prosper and work hard every day,” the four-time London Marathon champion said.

He also lauded JKUAT for being a university of high standards and producing very well-informed students.

“I think JKUAT is a great university…it is silent but produces a lot and that’s what’s needed. It is actually not being hyped everywhere but all in all, it’s producing great talents,” he added.

The five-time Berlin Marathon champion also passed a message of encouragement to the graduating class of 2023. The 41st graduation ceremony of the distinguished university will be held on December 1.

“To the graduating class of 2023 I want to tell them that they’ve got an education which rejuvenates and they should use it to inspire, innovate, and above all, respect humanity,” he said.
