Double Olympic champion Elaine Thomspon-Herah has opened up on the secret behind Jamaica's dominance in sprinting.

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has revealed the secret behind the dominance of Jamaican athletes in sprints.

Speaking to Athletics Weekly, the Jamaican noted that the Caribbean country is small and has tons of athletics talents that are fully supported.

She added that the former athletes, including the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, paved the way for them to dominate the world of sprints.

As she heads for an Olympic three-peat, Thompson-Herah is banking on that dominance and believes her training will work wonders for her as she looks to upset her competitors and make history.

“I’m confident, not super and not over and I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself. I want to stay positive and stay focused and it’s going to be a tough one because I’ll be eyeing a three-peat.

“We are small but we are great and we have so many great athletes that came from Jamaica and our legends have paved that way for us. We also want to pave the way for the younger generation and we have so many big names.

“Yes, we are small but we have the talent and we have the support and we are loved. We always want to be at the top and we are the best of course. Once one person does it, it means anybody can be,” Thompson-Herah told Athletics Weekly.

Speaking about her training, the two-time Olympic champion was excited to note that it has been going well under her new tactician, Reynaldo Walcott, and great things are coming.

She added that to be a great athlete, there are changes she had to make following her injury woes that delayed her greatness for two years but now she is ready to rumble.

“Training is going well and you know it’s never easy and this being an Olympic year, you have to put in the work. The new setup is going well and I’m excited to be working under a new coach and getting new instructions.

“I’m looking forward to being back at the top and I’m making tweaks to achieve that because to be great, you need to make adjustments. It’s all about staying patient and trusting in God. My setbacks have made me a better person and I’m hoping to bounce back stronger and better,” she added.
