His recent win was during the National Police Service Championships.

Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medallist Daniel Simiu has revealed that hard work is the reason behind his unwavering success so far this season.

Simiu noted that he is not looking to lose any race going forward and he is surely on the right track in achieving his target. He has only lost one race this season where he finished sixth in the senior men’s race at the World Cross-country Championships.

He reigned supreme at the Istanbul Half Marathon and Okpekpe Road Race before stunning the visitors at the Kip Keino Classic. His recent win was during the National Police Service Championships.

“I don’t want to lose any race going forward…I want to work hard and let God take over. I believe that hard work is the mother of all success and I have to work extra hard to get to the top. I’m not in a competition with anybody and I want to maintain that,” he said.

He added that he looks up to five-time World Cross-country champion Geoffrey Kamworor and he is keen on following in his footsteps.

Kamworor is also a four-time world half marathon champion and a two-time New York City marathon champion.

“I want to follow the way he does his things…he motivates me a lot and advises me on so many things,” he said.

Speaking about the Diamond League Meetings, Simiu revealed that his manager and coach will organise that for him and his main duty will be to compete.

The last time Kenya won a gold medal in the 10,000m at the World Championships was during the 2001 edition where Charles Kamathi won the race. Simiu did not want to promise anything but noted that he will work hard with the hope of returning the honours.

“I can’t promise since I don’t know what tomorrow holds. However, if I will be in good shape, I’ll definitely go for it,” he said.
