Conner Mantz is determined to reach Eliud Kipchoge's prime level, believing his potential can secure him podium finishes, starting with the Boston Marathon.

Conner Mantz, still a very young American long-distance runner, has revealed that surpassing Eliud Kipchoge's milestones is only way he would agree to rest on his laurels.

The 28-year-old wants to get to Eliud Kipchoge’s level in his prime, and ensure he obliterates every race he lines up for, just like the five-time Berlin Marathon champion always did when he was the same age.

American media has already started hyping him, and from his recent performances in the marathon, Conner Mantz believes he has all it takes and perhaps even more to make a name for himself.

In an interview with Guardian Sport, two-time Olympian and Brigham Young University coach who also works with Mantz, Ed Eyestone, revealed that the American is a man on a mission.

Ed Eyestone revealed that Conner Mantz is hungry for more and is looking forward to following in the footsteps of Eliud Kipchoge.

Kipchoge is one of the greatest marathoners to have walked this earth, having won five Berlin Marathon titles and four London Marathon titles.

Eliud Kipchoge has also won the Olympic title twice, in 2016 and 2021, among other accolades. Now, that is what Conner Mantz wants to achieve before he hangs up his spikes.

“Until he’s at the level of Eliud Kipchoge in his prime, winning everything and running faster at everything, I think there is going to be that sense of wanting more. That’s what makes him so competitive. This season has been pretty seamless for Conner thus far,” Eyestone said.

Corner Mantz opens up on his potential

The US champion strongly believes in his potential and revealed that going into the Paris Olympic Games and the New York City Marathon, he was confident of a podium finish.

Mantz would finish eighth at the Paris Olympic Games before crossing the finish line in sixth place at the New York City Marathon.

“Not that they went poorly, but I think just kind of missed this…I expected to do a little bit better. I thought that would come together … and I’d do something really big that day. And I don’t think I did,” he shared.

He has already started his 2025 season, finishing second at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon and United Airlines NYC Half.

Conner Mantz is locked in on the Boston Marathon, chasing his first podium finish over the full distance, and he believes he has everything it takes to make it happen.
