Going For World Championships Double After Olympics Heroics? Beatrice Chebet Responds
Olympics 10,000m and 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet has revealed her World Championships plans following questions over whether she will contest the double in Tokyo.
From her heroics in the five races so far, Chebet has banked close to Ksh16 million in just six months and more is yet to come as she will be contesting other Diamond League races and already sealed a place in the season finale in Zurich after which the World Championships will follow in September.
Where Has Beatrice Chebet’s Millions Come From?

Chebet started her season at the LXXXI Elgoibar Cross Country Juan Muguerza Memoria in Elgoibar, Spain on January 5, when she retained her title and according to World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting regulations, she is guaranteed $10,000 (Ksh1.3 million) for the win and there was also an undisclosed amount in appearance fees.
The 25-year-old then opened her Diamond League campaign in Xiamen, China, on April 26, winning the 5,000m which brought her $20,000 (Ksh2.6 million) as the race was one of the four Diamond + Discipline events whose winner’s prize is double the traditional $10,000.
She then headed to Rabat and run another dominant 3,000m race, clocking 8:11:56, to bank another $10,000 on May 25, before she returned to her specialty 5,000m in Rome on June 6 when she clocked a meeting record 14:03.69.

Millions Beatrice Chebet Will Earn After Breaking 5000m World Record
Beatrice Chebet became the first woman to run the 5000m in under 14 minutes at the Prefontaine Classic.

Kenyan Ace Can Earn Double From Upcoming Events
)
Chebet asserted her authority at Prefontaine Classic on July 5 when she lowered the 5,000m world record in Eugene to bank a total of $60,000 (Ksh7.7 million) in just under 14 minutes.
This came from the $10,000 of winning the race and an extra $50,000 (Ksh6.5 million) bonus for breaking the world record which therefore takes her total earnings in prize money to $120,000 (Ksh15.5 million) from the five races so far.
Chebet has an opportunity to earn more than double this amount as winning the Diamond League trophy will generate an extra $30,000 (Ksh3.9 million), assuming she does not run any other Diamond League series race, while at the World Championships, she can pocket up to $140,000 (Ksh18 million) if she pulls off a 10,000m and 5,000m double gold, as she did at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
