Bayanda Walaza has revealed his interest in training with Oblique Seville to learn from his unique sprinting ability.

Bayanda Walaza has revealed that one thing that Oblique Seville possesses that no other sprinter has, including the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt.

The 19-year-old explained that it is that special talent that makes him want to train with Oblique Seville and learn how he manages to become a ‘perfect’ sprinter.

At the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, Oblique Seville was in a class of his own as he destroyed a strong field to claim the win in a personal best time of 9.77 seconds.

Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson finished second in the race, with Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles rounding up the podium.

The double World Under-20 champion disclosed that he wants to work with Oblique Seville owing to the fact that he has a great start and is also a good finisher.

Growing up, Bayanda Walaza claimed that they were always made to believe that an athlete can only be great in one thing, either they are good at the start or finishing, but not both.

However, Oblique Seville has defied the odds, and Bayanda Walaza believes he can be able to learn a lot from him if they train together.

He singled out the likes of Usain Bolt and Noah Lyles, who are not the perfect starters, but their top-end speed is one for the books. Bayanda Walaza also observed that Christian Coleman has one of the best starts but is a poor finisher.

“I'd like to train with Oblique Seville. Surely, I believe he's one of the athletes that I've seen who has a good start and actually a fast finish. Most of the time, as we grow up, we know that we need to have one that we rely on, but Seville can start fast and still end fast,” Bayanda Walaza revealed in an interview on the Go Wild Podcast.

“Same as Usain Bolt, he had a bad start…it was not bad because if you check the times. Yeah, you know, he runs fast. But when you look at him running with people, you can say that, okay, this is not a strong point, but he finishes better.

“Noah Lyles his start is not that great, but his finish is good. Coleman best starter in the world but not always the best finish. But Seville has all of that, and I'm kind of wondering how is it like actually possible to be good with your start and fast finish.”

Bayanda Walaza admires Oblique Seville’s unique combination of explosive starts and strong finishes, seeing him as a rare talent from whom he hopes to learn and elevate his own sprinting.
