Obiri has not lost any race since she opened her season at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon.

Two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri put up a brilliant show in the women’s 10km race at the Great Manchester 10km run to secure a dominant win on Sunday, May 21.

The women’s race started off on a speedy note with reigning Olympic marathon champion Jepchirchir and defending champion Obiri leading the pack passing through the 3km mark.

As the athletes passed through the 5km mark, the race was a now becoming a battle between Obiri and Jepchirchir and the duo was slowly parting from the other athletes.

Passing through the 6km mark, Obiri was in a class of her own and had created a massive gap between herself and Jepchirchir. Jepchirchir, just coming from a second-place at the London Marathon, was not also giving up as she was comfortably chasing Obiri.

However, the reigning Boston Marathon champion was still pushing hard as she passed through the 8km mark in 24:38. Jepchirchir followed closely passing the mark in 25:08.

With the finish line in sight, Obiri unleased a finishing kick to cross the finish line in 31:14 as Jepchirchir came second in 31:59. Great Britain’s Calli Thackery sealed the podium in 32:51.

Obiri has not lost any race since she opened her season at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon.
