Last year, Ngetich broke the 10km world record in Valencia, becoming the first woman to run the distance in under 29 minutes in a mixed-race event. She recorded a time of 28:46, breaking Yalemzerf Yehualaw's world record for a mixed road race of 29:14 set in 2022.

In January 2024, with a time of 28:46, she set the 10 km run world record in Valencia, breaking the previous record by 28 seconds. En route to this time, Ngetich also broke the 5 km run world record, splitting 14:13 at 5 km which was 6 seconds faster than the previous world record.

Ngetich has won two medals at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships, including team gold. 

First athlete to run under-30 mins in 10km

Ngetich made history on Saturday, April 26, at the Adizero Road to Records event in, Germany, setting a new world record in the women-only 10km race.

The 24-year-old star blazed through the course in an astonishing 29 minutes and 27 seconds, becoming the first woman ever to break the 30-minute barrier in a women-only 10km race.

Ngetich’s hot streak began with victory at the fourth edition of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret, clocking 32:42 in the women’s 10km.

Her last competition before Germany was at the first leg of the Grand Slam in Kingston, Jamaica in March, where she came second in the 5000m and 3000m. She clocked 8:28.75 in the women’s 3000m before running 14:59.80 in the 12-and-a-half-lap race.

On 27 October 2024, Ngetich won the Valencia Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour 3 minutes and 4 seconds, missing Letesenbet Gidey's world record of 1 hour 2 minutes and 52 seconds by 13 seconds. This time places Ngetich as the second fastest half marathon runner in history behind Gidey.

At 24, Ngetich has more still left in her tank. She is yet to reach her prime bet her achievements are already immense. With sacrifice, determination and a never-die-spirit, Ngetich can etch herself into Kenya's history with such sensational form.
