Youngster Madina Okot part of 12-team squad to Women AfroBasket qualifiers
Budding basketballer Madina Okot is among the 12-member Kenya ladies national team (Lionesses) squad heading for the FIBA Africa AfroBasket 2023 Zone Five Qualifiers slated for February 14-19 in Kampala, Uganda.
Okot comes as a crucial player to the team as she was an integral part of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) team that clinched the national title. Okot was also part of Kenya’s 3×3 team to the Commonwealth Games and was a vital part of the Under-23 side that qualified for the 3×3 World Championships in Romania for the first time.
Meanwhile, internationals Victoria Reynolds of Immortal TCars form Portugal, Mercy Wanyama of AD Cortegada, Spain and Rose Ouma of Al Nasr Cultural & Sport Club, Qatar who captained the side in the last show are also in the squad.
The six-day event has also attracted hosts Uganda, South Sudan and Egypt. The Lionesses have a busy season ahead of them with their next international assignment being the AfroBasket Championships set for July 28-August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda and then the All-Africa Games (August 4-19) in Accra, Ghana.
