AC Milan are in the market for a striker following the exit of Olivier Giroud to the MLS at the end of the season. Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee was their top target for the position, and they have chased him all summer. However, the Ditch-Nigerian is set to join Manchester United, as Pulse Sports reported, forcing Milan to pivot towards another target.
Man United close to landing Zirkzee
As Pulse Sports reported, the Red Devils are nearing the completion of a £34 million deal for 23-year-old striker Zirkzee.
Zirkzee was one of the top performers in the Serie A last season, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists to help Bologna defy odds and qualify for the Champions League.
What this means for Morata
After losing out on Zirkzee, AC Milan focuses on a new target, Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
According to GFFN, AC Milan’s senior advisor, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, refused to agree to Zirkzee’s demands, allowing Manchester United to hijack the deal.
However, they are said to have identified former Juventus striker Morata as an ideal candidate. The player is expected to be keen, as he recently spoke out against a perceived lack of respect for him at Atletico after the Madrid-based club were reported to be in the market for a new striker.
