Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United looks set to end in disappointment, with manager Ruben Amorim reportedly making it clear that the Cameroon international has no future as the club’s No.1.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Amorim directly told the goalkeeper he would not be first choice even if he stayed at Old Trafford, a stance that has accelerated his impending loan move to Turkey.

Amorim’s brutal message sends Onana packing

Amorim’s straight-talking approach left little room for interpretation: after recent events, Onana will not reclaim his starting role.

The Manchester United hierarchy is fully aware of this stance, which explains why the club has been actively trying to find him a new home.

With Altay Bayindir trusted as the current starter and new £21.7m signing Senne Lammens brought in from Antwerp to provide competition, Onana has been pushed further down the pecking order.

Manchester United’s transfer business this summer, including their interest in Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and the £30m price quoted to Monaco for Onana, revealed a lack of long-term faith in the Cameroonian, despite his £47.2m arrival from Inter Milan just two years ago.

Onana eyes Turkish escape

Trabzonspor have emerged as his next destination, with a loan deal close to completion before the Turkish transfer window shuts. The move carries no loan fee and no purchase option, but it will see Onana’s salary double thanks to a hefty signing bonus and additional incentives.

For the 29-year-old, it represents both financial stability and the chance to escape the scrutiny of the Premier League after a string of high-profile errors, including his mistake in the Carabao Cup defeat at Grimsby Town.
