‘We only have 1 striker’ - Ayegbeni claims Osimhen is the only forward and others are just happy to come to Nigeria
Eric Chelle invited Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare and Akor Adams as the only strikers for the last four FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
However, Osimhen has been the only forward to have turned up for the Super Eagles, scoring important goals that took the team to the play-off.
The striker scored five goals in four games for Nigeria, but the team still failed to make it to the FIFA World Cup.
Ayegbeni speaks of Nigerian strikers
Following the failure to qualify for the World Cup, Ayegbeni has claimed that Osimhen is the only striker in the team.
Speaking on a podcast, he said, "For Nigeria we get like 4 other strikers in the team. We only have one who they play like a madman for the pitch.
“You see his aggressiveness, or he shouts if you do not pass the ball. This present national team now does not have a striker.
“Well, they have one Victor Osimhen. The other ones that are there, I think they are just happy to come to Nigeria.
“Back in our days we had Julius Agahowa, Obafemi Martins, Victor Agali and everybody wants to play. If I sit down on the bench and I am not playing, I am angry. I want to show that I want to play.
“But these ones, they feel like even when they do not play, they don't really accept that it is Osimhen already. He's number one.
“Don't get me wrong. He's one of the best strikers in the world for now, but the other striker we have, they're never ready to play. They bring them and have no impact. Nothing at the end. If Osimhen does not play, we're not going to go anywhere."
