We aim to break it - Iwobi wants to challenge for Europe after Man United masterclass
Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi has spoken out confidently after playing a decisive role in Fulham’s impressive 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
The result ended Man United’s run of eight consecutive Premier League wins at Fulham’s home ground, much to the delight of the Cottagers and their fans.
Iwobi, 29, provided his first goal contribution of the season by setting up the crucial equalizer scored by super-sub Emily Rowe-Smith.
His vision and precise delivery in the final moments proved decisive, breaking United’s lead and securing a valuable point for Fulham.
Named man of the match for his outstanding display, Iwobi revealed that Fulham have bigger ambitions this season after last year’s record points haul.
The club finished 11th last season with 54 points, their highest ever, but still 11 points shy of European qualification.
“To get more points than we did last season – we broke the record, so we aim to break it again and hopefully challenge for a European spot,” Iwobi told the Premier League.
“We knew the difference could be made off the bench, it happened in the last game. It’s better to not lose, and we got that point against a good team.”

Reflecting on his match-winning assist, Iwobi explained, “I was aiming for Raul! I know he makes that run in behind as well, so I just put it in that area and I trust him to get onto the ball.”
Iwobi’s confident words and key contributions show that the Nigerian midfielder is eager to help Fulham build on last season’s progress and push towards greater heights this campaign.
With his creative spark igniting the team, Fulham fans will be hopeful of more standout performances from their star man in the weeks ahead.
