Victor Wanyama Lands Major FIFPRO Role Alongside Mac Allister, Antoine Semenyo
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has been named among 37 players worldwide selected to join the newly launched FIFPRO Global Player Council (GPC), a body designed to ensure footballers’ voices are central to decisions shaping the future of the game.
Wanyama, currently unattached, will work alongside high-profile names including 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, U.S. international Crystal Dunn, five-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner Lucy Bronze, Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo, Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood, and AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. He is the only Kenyan player in the council.
First launched in 2019, the GPC provides an avenue for players to engage directly with domestic player unions and FIFPRO, the worldwide representative body for professional footballers.

According to FIFPRO, council members will help shape conversations on crucial issues such as the international match calendar, employment standards, player data, and social media abuse.
“The voice of the council will strengthen national player unions in their capacity to address issues at the international level,” FIFPRO said in a statement on Tuesday, September 30.
The council will also feature other African representatives, including Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi, Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego, Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji, Cape Verde international Roberto Lopes, and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.
Footballers Can Reshape Industry Forever - Alex Phillips
FIFPRO Secretary General Alex Phillips praised the council members, noting their leadership both on and off the pitch.
“All of these players have demonstrated leadership on and off the pitch, and we’re proud to have them as members of FIFPRO’s Global Player Council. Footballers hold the power to shape their industry for the better, and we thank these players for devoting their time and effort to advocating for their colleagues with passion and courage,” Phillips said.
Wanyama, who previously starred for Celtic, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur, now steps into a role that could redefine his influence in football beyond the pitch, giving Kenya representation at the very heart of global football decision-making.
